It’s hard to believe, and pretty cool, that 2021 will mark Brown Paper Press’ seventh year on the planet. I mean, sure, it’s no Conagra (nod to my Uncle Red, who literally helped build Conagra), but it’s something good that I have managed to make and keep alive; and for a non-money-motivated human such as myself, that’s three-martini-toast-worthy. Plus, seventeen book awards! Not bad for a year’s work.
Both of our big releases in 2019 managed to pick up an astonishing 17 book awards this year. Astonishing not because we didn’t deserve them — we sure as hellfire did — but because book awarding is so subjective; you just never know what’s going to appeal to people in any given year. That dozens of judges were impressed by Trove and ParentShift enough to give them so many top honors is enough to make a person want to weather this fickle industry a bit longer.
